Souvenirs from the Urban Margins

Searching for pockets of color amid Berlin’s omnipresent gray, I found myself lurking at the edges — at the places where the eyes don’t often rest. I hovered near ornate doorways and graffitied walls. I scrutinized the frames of decaying billboards. I knelt beside tattered camper vans. Ultimately, I discovered what I was looking for — deep blues and vibrant yellows, a pastel red, and a lime green — but also the unexpected: intricate compositions sculpted and left for the taking by the city itself.
